Why doesn't the open source community take on this project? Hardware could be open source as well...these days election officials would jump at a voting machine that didn't cost megabucks. I can't believe that we couldn't come up with a clean secure open source voting system!
Yeah, fantastic - 50,000 different voting systems, none of which record results in the same format, and all of which require users to memorize barely-documented two- and three-letter CLUI commands and require poll workers to know how to recompile their own kernel and troubleshoot device drivers for the Diebold machines on the fly. That would go over just great. >:-)
