CATEGORY: The Missing Feature - Our running list of the most essential things we wish our software and gadgets could do...but don't, yet. We'll keep this blog stocked with the most user-friendly, timesaving suggestions we can think of. When word gets out about our great ideas, well, it's only a matter of time before the engineers at Apple, Adobe, and Microsoft respond, right?

Auto- GPS and metadata digital photography features

Photoshop CS3 RAW and Lightroom Adventure author Mikkel Aaland wants a digital camera that fully utilizes GPS capabilities and also is smart enough to apply better meta data to his photographs.

My name is Mikkel Aaland. I'm a photographer and I write books on digital photography, and I've written books on Photoshop and Photoshop Lightroom recently.

The feature that I find missing in Lightroom, for example, is a feature where I - actually it's a feature that several people have asked me for. The ability to push a button and have Lightroom go out and find all the files that were created in Apple Aperture, suck those into Lightroom, because people want to start working with Lightroom and they can't do that.

The other feature is a feature that has to do with my own inability, or my own lack of interest, in applying metadata to my photographs, such as keywords.

I want a camera - a digital camera - to be so smart that it not only tells me where I took the photograph but tells me what I was thinking when I took the photograph. Those are features I'm looking for. Thank you very much.
