Two Button Printing in Lightroom
This topic was addressed back in mid 2007, but I want to make sure that newer readers are aware of it, because for me it is one of the coolest capabilities of Lightroom.
If you take advantage of templates, which are saved settings, you can print with just two clicks of the mouse. If you are used to printing out of Photoshop you will appreciate how amazing this is, as it encompasses everything from image sizing and sharpening, to File>Print settings and printer driver settings.
Here’s how:
- In the right panel of the Print module, set your print settings. I usually don’t want anything but the image, so I set Rotate to Fit and Cell Size, and turn off Stroke, Identity Plate and Photo Info. Under Print Job I set Print to Printer, Print Resolution, Print Sharpening, paper Profile and Rendering Intent.
- Click on Page Setup at the bottom of the left Panel, choose your printer, and set your printer driver settings. I turn color management off, set the paper type, size and source, and image orientation. Hit OK or Save to exit the dialog.
- To add a new template, click on the + to the right of the Template Browser in the left panel. Name the template, including the print size and paper type (e.g. 16x24 Hahnemuhle Photo Rag).
- Now that the template is set up, any time you want to print an image with that size/paper combination, simply bring the image up in the Print module, click on the template name in the Template Browser, and hit Print One. If you want to print multiple images, select them all, click on the template, and hit Print One. (Print One bypasses the printer driver dialog, which you have already configured. If you want to get back into it, hit Print instead).
Each time you print a different size and paper combination, take the time to create the template for it.
Enjoy!

Thanks for the excellent tip Laura!
It seems that you are turning off your color management in both LR and your printer. Is that correct?
You are turning color management off in the printer driver only. Color management is managed by Lightroom via the profile you choose (change the Profile from Manage By Printer to your specific paper/printer profile).
I am trying Lightroom for the first time and what comes out of my printer is extremely different from what I see on my computer prior to printing. This is not the case when printing from photoshop.
I have turned off the color managment for my printer but that only made a very slight difference. What else should I try?
When printing from Lightroom, I consistently get prints that are too dark and are a bit warmer than what I see on my display. I use ICC profiles for my Epson printer/paper, and I use the Eye-One Display 2 to profile my display. Is there something I am missing, and is there a good workaround for this?
Hi Monte, this could be a number of issues:
Warmth:
1. You are evaluating your print under a warm light source, such as a tungsten lightbulb. (a 5000k source is ideal.)
2. You aren't calibrating to a white point of 6500k.
3. You don't have a high quality profile (Epson profiles are usually very good).
4. You aren't turning color management off in the printer driver.
5. There is something about your work environment that causes to see your images on-screen as cooler than they are (and therefore you are warming them up too much in Lightroom) -- blue walls behind your monitor, blue curtains that tint the room light blue, etc...)
6. You are using a warm toned paper.
Darkness:
Calibrate to a gamma of 2.2, and luminance of 100 to start. Luminance is a subjective target -- if your prints, both black and white and color are too dark, your monitor is too bright, so reduce the luminance target when you calibrate.
If you are just experiencing prints too dark for black and whites, search on the web for Eric Chan's article on Lightroom and the Epson 3800. (The issue goes beyond the 3800, but it is in this context that he discusses it.)
If none of these issues solve the problem, a good place to get back-and-forth help is on www.lightroomforums.net.
Best wishes,
Laura

Steve, first, I do not work for Adobe. I write articles for users in my own personal time for free because I enjoy using the product.
I have an article/video currently posted on my blog, www.digitaldailydose.wordpress.com that talks about printing with profiles through Lightroom. If this doesn't address your issue, I would suggest posting your question at www.lightroomforums.net.
