Photokina Report: Hasselblad or Video in Your Future?
Ok, so I promised to report on the new Leica medium format camera but I got distracted with a Hasselblad press conference instead. I'm glad I did. Hasselblad has been off my radar for some time now, but today changed that.
Not only did they announce a very exciting 50 megapixel camera but aggressive pricing reductions on their other models as well. We are still talking in the $10,000 to $20,000 dollar range, so I'm not going to rush out and buy one, but I am SO tempted by the amazing quality of their cameras. After leaving the Hassleblad press conference I ran into Adobe's Bryan O'Neil Hughes, Photoshop's product manager. Yesterday Brian worked with Lightroom's product manager, Tom Hogarty to bring the audience back into the Adobe booth after a very boring "live" video CS 4 launch feed from the US. Our conversation quickly turned to Lightroom and Photoshop integration and it was very heartening to hear that both Tom and Brian are now situated next to each other down in the San Jose office. "There is so much we can do to make the two applications complement each other," he said, and then he proceeded to give me some really good ideas about creating videos from time lapsed photographs, organized in Lightroom, and then brought into Photoshop and converted into Flash video. I promise to research this a bit and write it up later. Our brief, inspiring, conversation reminded me why I love going to shows like Photokina.
