Michael Clark's Lightroom 2 eBook
One of the problems with Lightroom 2 that I’ve been having to deal with may be unique to my situation because I’m currently doing all my work in Costa Rica. So even though Adobe has shipped the shrink-wrapped and “official” version of Lightroom 2.0, I haven’t been able to get my hands on the published documentation because it takes several weeks to get from my California office to my Costa Rican office. So I was thrilled to read that Michael Clark’s eBook on Lightroom Workflow was just updated and released today. So I immediately went to his site: www.michaelclarkphoto.com and downloaded it.
Since I just managed to get it downloaded at about 9:30 Costa Rican time and didn’t realize that I needed to save it before I started reading it, I’m having to download it again. Took about an hour the first time. I did, however, get a chance to read the Table of Contents, Introduction, and his very, very professional procedures for setting up his camera(s) for the best possible RAW capture including one of the most clear and understandable discussions of the importance of Histograms, how to read them, and how to expose in order to capture the most RAW data possible in order to be assured of having the most to work with when adjusting the image. It’s all very scientific and thorough, but totally understandable, logical, and just plain interesting.
What I learned from the table-of-contents is that he seems to be covering a very complete suggested workflow that is specifically aimed at high-volume production, advertising, and editorial photographers who are expected to produce the very best pictures and present them almost instantly. He also has an entire chapter devoted to what you should save for doing in Photoshop, when and why.
Another thing I noticed that makes this eBook really worth having: Michael’s references to articles, supplies and recommended accessories all have active links that you can click. Just be sure you’ve saved your downloaded eBook before you click or you may have to download the whole thing all over again. That’s not something you want to do over rural Costa Rican Internet at about 12Mbps if you’re lucky and this is DSL?
Just in case you’re wondering, Michael didn’t ask me to give an opinion of his book, nor did he give me the book.

Might be a good Lr reference to put on a USB key while on the road.
Er, maybe: http://michaelclarkphoto.blogspot.com/2008/08/adobe-photoshop-lightroom-ebook-now.html
Why the "er, maybe" afterthought? I thought it was a great idea. In fact, I just did it.

Thank you very much for the glowing remarks about my Lightroom workflow eBook. I hope you were able to download it ok that last time. If you are in Safari it downloads into the browser and isn't saved automatically which is what I suspect happened to you the first time. Glad to see that it is a good resource. It has taken me many years to dial in my workflow and Lightroom has been a huge help to streamline things.
Here is the link to the page where folks can get the eBook and read more about it:

There is also a link to download the first 5 pages of the book to get a feel for it for free.
I owe you big time Ken! Drop me an email if you get a chance....
Ken,
Once you get it downloaded and saved, I think we'd all appreciate a more complete review of this ebook. I'm tempted to buy it, but not just from looking at the ToC and intro pages.
I already spent this month's (and next month's) photo budget just to upgrade to LR2, so this has to be pretty good for me to get it before October! :-)
Yes I'd be interested in hearing a review before purchasing as well..
I'm trying to connect from Germany but cannot get Michael's site to open. Is there a problem or is it blocked? Any help please would be great.
Thx, Dave
Im having the same problem, can someone please email me some advise?

Did I miss the mention of the price?
Or is the Adobe assumption these days that if you have to ask how much it costs you can't afford it?

I am glad to see Ars review photography software. I'd love to see more Graphic design and photography software reviews. But I can't shake the feeling that it's only being reviewed because it's a competitor to Aperture. And testing on both Windows and OS X would be nice. anne of green gables dvd
