RPG Keys - Lightroom Editing
This weeks post is going to be brief as I am TOTALLY addicted to my new toy - RPG KEYS from Riley Photographic This is one of those products that leaves us all saying “why didn’t I think of that?”
My initial reaction after a few days with this is that I have easily shaved 2-4 hours a week out of my workflow.
Here is a list of the buttons assigned to do what is normally accomplished with mouse strokes and sliders:
- Saturation + / -
- Sharpness + / -
- Tint + / -
- Contrast + / -
- Black + / -
- Exposure + / -
- Fill + / -
- Recover + / -
- Vibrancy + / -
- Brightness + / -
- Temp + / -
- Clarity + / -
RPG also has a nice set of demo(s) showing off the keyboard.
All I can say is WOW I am astounded at the possibilties.
Happy Editing,

Hi Brandon, it's a bit pricey for me. DIY'rs could do something similar with an X-Keys setup. I do suspect that for people doing a lot of work constantly, it would pay for itself in saved time very quicky.

I was thinking of doing something similar with my logitech gaming keyboard. G10/G11 keyboards have 18 programmable keys that you can program in macros and such. You can have 3 sets of the 18 keys programmed plus i think that you can make the sets of programmed keys program specific, so you can setup a bunch to work in lightroom and have it map automagically when you switch to photoshop or another program.
As someone that typically takes FOREVER to edit a job I can say without reservation that the RPG keys have made a huge impact on my workflow.
A great product worth every penny!
To current owners and interestd photographers...
We have just posted a sneak peak of the future of the RPG KEYS on our blog.
Expected arrival = July 1st.
I just thought the readers of this blog might enjoy a little advanced notice about the latest product from RPG KEYS INC.
Cheers

I've been testing the RPG keys since the end of April in conjunction with my DAM Lightroom Workshop. The keys were a real hit in the classroom and I've been reaching for it whenever I have a job to go through a photo job.
I can't wait to see the next version! This thing is great!
I have been using RPG Keys extensively for the last few months. I can tell you that this product is bananas good. I'm a wedding photographer with 25+ weddings a year nationally. If you use lightroom as any part of your workflow you absolutely *need* the keys.
Are they pricey? For me the time saved by being able to edit without fiddling with my mouse and squinting at LR sliders is worth SO much more than the cost of the keys.
Anyone who says they could do this themselves does not understand the program. RPG is a sidecar application that bridges the gap between where the normal Lightroom shortcuts leave off and where Lightroom would be in an ideal world. This is not a replacement for pressing buttons on your normal keyboard. RPG adds a whole other level of functionality that is not available any other way.
Lightroom really gets cracking with 2.0. Existing RPG users get a free upgrade to the new 2.0 keyboard when the program comes out of beta. Not getting in now would be a major mistake imho.
They do not pay me a penny to say this by the way. I'm just pumped that there's finally a solution to make image editing as streamlined and intuitive as it should be. I seriously cannot imagine using Lightroom without this.

Yes, this is great editing software / add on. I thnk it's worth it as you'll probably use it quite a bit and then won't be able to do without it! John, Utility Warehouse, UK
