Pick, Pick, Reject

With the summer months fast approaching, the last thing I want to do is spend more time staring at my monitor. Every tip and technique that enables me to speed up my workflow, give me some control over my freetime, and still maintain a maniacal hold on image quality is a sweet deal in my book.

This week I was mulling over those shortcuts that really put the pedal to the metal when working through large volumes of images. Then it appeared … Michael Clark’s recent post regarding the Caps Lock key.

A killer tip indeed … and one I rarely take proper advantage of.

The beginning of my workflow for any new job begins with setting picks and rejects.

The kicker is that when you hold down Shift (mac or pc) while selecting P or X Lightroom will automatically move to the next image in the filmstrip. This is like putting nitrous in your pick and reject workflow, and with Michael’s tip you can hit the pedal and blaze through your rating(s).

Until next time, Happy Pickin’

This is great. Combining last week's tip with this week's yields a great result: engaging Caps Lock allows you to advance when clicking P, U, or X. This will save me so much time. Well, actually, it will save me physical hand strain. I had been stretching so I could hit p,u, and x with my left hand and arrow keys with my right.

Thanks!

Whoa you are right, that goes VERY fast; so fast it was a bit unnerving. Thanks.....

That's a nice tip. I might have to try that as an alternative to my current method, which is to filter by 'unflagged', which removes an image from view when you either pick or reject it and moves to the next shot.

@James Pearson: I use the same method and it's working fine for me. I actually prefer it over this one.
