An Editing Trick

Editing thousands of images is a daunting task. Usually when I get back from a shoot I am, like every other photographer, anxious to see what I got. I can normally tell within a few minutes what the real winners are and from there starts the task of slowing down and taking a look at the rest of the images. Luckily for me I am a not normally on super tight deadlines so I can take my time to some degree as I edit.

I have written quite a bit about my editing process here and here. But one little nugget I have recently remembered and started using is the caps lock key while ranking images. In the Library module, if you turn on the caps lock key and rank an image one through five Lightroom automatically moves to the next image. It may not sound like a big deal but when zipping through a few thousand images it can save a fair amount of time. And it just makes everything flow better as well.

This week's blog is short but sweet! That's it for this session. See you next week.

Adios, Michael

are you kidding me? that's awesome.

usually, i batch select, flag those as picks (for exporting into a master selections folder), and then do ratings (for touch ups, exporting to a "Best" folder).

do you rate EVERY SINGLE picture? and does rating without Flagging become faster for YOU as you increase your shot counts?

just wondering. faster workflows = my goal.

Waylan -

I don't use flags in general. I just use the star rating system. Not every image gets a ranking only those that make the cut. You can see my entire editing process here:

Ranking with stars just gives you more options when filtering your images (so you don't have to make collections). Not sure if it is faster or not.

Now that's a little tip worth reading a blog for.
I used to turn filters on and off.
This is so much simpler.
Thanks/
