Lightroom 1.4.1 Released

On March 16th, Lightroom 1.4 was pulled from Adobe's servers because of some rather nasty bugs that slipped out into the world. This was a disappointment to many because Lightroom 1.4 contained support for lots of new cameras, including the newest Canon Rebel, the Nikon D60, the latest Pentax and Sony cameras. But, the bugs were pretty nasty, and Adobe did the right thing in pulling the release. Now, a few weeks later, and after a bit more baking in the software oven, we have the release of Lightroom 1.4.1.

Lightroom 1.4.1 comes with fixes to the following issues that were introduced in 1.4:

  • Import performance has been improved.
  • Files from DNG conversion on Windows are now readable by Lightroom and Camera Raw. You can correct DNG files created with Lightroom 1.4 on Windows by converting them again using the DNG Converter.
  • EXIF date fields in metadata had been incorrectly modified been fixed. If an improper date had been written to the metadata of a file, it will be fixed on the next metadata update. You can make sure that all your files have the correct metadata by selecting your images in Lightroom and doing a quick File > Save.
  • Olympus JPEG files now display correctly.

As well as shipping with bug fixes and support for the new cameras, Lightroom 1.4.1 has updated printer driver compatibility for Mac OS X Leopard.

I'm happy to see that the fixed release is out now and know that it's the result of a lot of quick and hard work on the part of the Lightroom and Camera RAW teams. From comments Tom Hogarty has made, it's clear that the Lightroom team takes the botched release of Lightroom 1.4 seriously and will make changes to help prevent this sort of thing from happening again.

All in all, shipping software is a hard task and I raise my glass to the Lightroom team. Now, let's all go off and follow rule #5 a bit. You grab the Lightroom 1.4.1 updates using these links: Mac, Windows.

This was good news, thanks JDD! At least Adobe did the right thing and fixed this as soon as humanly possible.
