10,000,000 Apps Downloaded

Holy cow!

Apple just announced 10,000,000 downloads from the App Store which contains 800 apps. That is an impressive 12,500 downloads per app for just three days.

Pity that iPhone developers individually have no clue as to how well (or not) their apps are doing. It seems as if Apple plans to keep that information to themselves, providing developers only with a monthly balance sheet at the end of a month.

This makes it very hard to track the success of promos, advertising and other marketing. It also makes it hard to build a business without any means to track your success. It seems as if iPhone developers need to explore their own ways to track app usage.

isn't that par for their course?

'frustration' does not describe the feeling

I am most discouraged that they obviously rushed themselves to their July 11 date. Nobody could argue that they were not disorganized in this whole dealing.

You have got to think that Steve Jobs is fuming about how the iPhone was delivered. First Me.com is up and down like a Yo-Yo; iTunes 7.7 appears but with no link to the Applications; the Applications come up but there is no update to the iPhone 1.0 firmware; then the activation for the iPhone does not work; finally, many locations run out of phones on the first day.

Has someone been listening to the Microsoft release manual? Today's statement came out more like damage control for a chaotic weekend than anything else.

I believe "Downloads" total is displayed on the iPhone's AppStore (but subject to some variaton because of cache servers).

For developers wishing to track usage, check http://www.pinchmedia.com/ (free).

"Downloads" was only listed on the mobile App Store and then only on Thursday July 10th. Since then it's listed 0 for all apps. I suspect it was reconsidered when everyone realized that it was an indicator of absolute revenues.
