For the past few months, I've been privileged to be in contact with Derrick Story as he's planned and worked on "Inside iPhone", a new site for iPhone development. "Inside iPhone" opens up a new community centered on iPhone software and developer
interaction.
I can think of few platforms whose development has grabbed my interest as much as the iPhone. With its multi-touch interface, accelerometer and integrated multimedia support, it provides an exciting space for third party development. Now that Apple has stepped up to the plate and released its SDK, it's growing ever richer. Xcode and the official SDK offer new worlds to explore while the thriving Open Toolchain SDK community continues its forward progress.
I am honored to be a member of this site at its start. O'Reilly has always exemplified building community, sharing expertise and learning from others. I look forward to all of those and to working with the amazing blogging crew that Derrick has pulled together. I
can't wait to get started and I hope you'll enjoy participating here as much as we'll enjoy blogging for you.
Is the new I phone worth scrapping the phone for which I paid $699. or is it a gimmick to sell millions of phones to non-I phone users at a higher monthly fee? Will there be an upgrade for those of us with the ultimate-expensive I phone?
The choice is all about service and not about the OS. The 3G iPhone runs the same 2.0 firmware as the first gen iPhone. You can buy into faster data service at a premium ($10/month plus SMS charges) and get GPS.
