Photoshop CS4 is for the Birds!

for the birds.jpg

Hi All

Photoshop CS4 is for the birds - including these emperor penguins that I photographed in Antarctica two weeks ago. But CS4 is not only for the birds. It's for all types of wildlife that is photographed under less than ideal conditions (and even those critters who are photographed in good weather). I did most of the work on this image in ACR - starting with the Graduated filter and then playing around with Recovery, Black Point, Exposure and some other adjustments. In CS4, I used Shadlows/Highlights and even the Burn tool, which has been improved to protect to tones. I added the Antarctica "sun" using the Lens Flare filter.

So yes, CS4 is for the birds. It turned a possible outtake into a keeper.

Some more CS4 before/after images on my site.

P.S. FYI: The phrase "For the birds" was first employed by J D Salinger in Catcher in the Rye. If you read the book, you know what it means :-)

You mean you actually like the electronic fake look on the right better then the more natural look on the left?! I mean, the original image may have needed work, but this... it's just butchered.
