Last of the iPhone 3G 1st Day Lines: Honolulu, Hawaii
I didn't plan to go see the iPhone 3G launch madness in person. After all, how could the excitement top the initial iPhone release day?
But, when I heard my friend Ryan Ozawa (you may be one of the thousands of people who listened to the "Lost" podcast that he and his wife did a while back: The Transmission or read about in Wired's pod-fading article), I hopped over to the main Apple store in Honolulu to see what was going on (I happened to be nearby at the time). And, wow, I was surprised to see the line that had formed around the center mall area. This was despite the fact that the store had already been open for a while and people were already streaming out with their brand new iPhone 3G boxes.
Honolulu has the distinction of being in the final time zone that Apple opened its stores for the iPhone 3G launch. So, there was probably a lot of pent-up need-to-buy in the people in line who had been reading and watching others around the world get their iPhone 3G before them. :-)
My apologies for the low-quality photos and video. As, I mentioned, I had not planned to watch the launch up close and only had my cameraphone (an HTC TyTn) with me. I was also unable to edit and title the video since nothing I had (iMovie, VLC, iSquint, etc.) could edit or transcode the weird MP4 video files the phone created.
