Mac technology for "Aging in Place"

Perhaps you find yourself worrying about aging parents who live alone in their home. Or, if you're a boomer, you might be wondering how you'll deal with finding yourself in the same situation in the rapidly-approaching future. In either case, you're not alone. In fact, there's a fledgling industry waiting to help you find solutions. The article Aging Under a High-Tech Eye in the Chicago Tribune provides a nice overview.

The movement is sometimes called "aging in place" and it's focused on using computers and sensors to watch for signs of trouble as seniors go about their daily lives. Remember those "I've fallen and I can't get up" TV commercials from the early 1990s? Well, not only is that company still around, now there are plenty of do-it-yourself solutions to choose from.

All the approaches need to be fine-tuned to meet your circumstances, but if you're interested in learning more, here are some other articles that will get you started.

There are some other interesting Mac applications you could use, which I'll write about in the future. For now, get your mental wheels turning, and leave a comment with your thoughts.

This is a really fantastic application for smarthome technology, especially given the aging population trends we're seeing. Very interesting!
