Light it Right with a Ringlight

f1.jpg

Hey All You Macro Shooters -

If you have never used a ringlight, I personally feel as though it's the only way to go for serious macro shooters. Advantages: great depth of field (because you can shoot even at f/22) and usually no need to use a tripod. Plus... super sharp photos - because you can use an ISO setting of 100.

I have a 50mm macro lens and a 100mm macro lens. The 100mm macro is great for photographing butterflies and other subjects that don't want you to get too close. But for most subjects, a 50mm macro lens will do - plus it's less expensive.

And get this: a 100mm macro lens also makes a GREAT portrait lens! Try it, you'll like it.

Here is just one example, a red-eye tree frog.

Any guesses here the photo was taken?

Take good care,
Rick
P.S. Yes, I removed the reflection of the ringlight's light tubes in Photoshop :-)
