Wireless headphones experiment - Shaw Blades & AKG

I recently had the privilege of sitting in on an invite-only concert performance by two world class musicians, Tommy Shaw of Styx and Jack Blades of Night Ranger -- who between them have sold in excess of 55M albums in their careers. They are also friends of mine. So it was a special treat to join them at MacWorld for an experiment they did in conjunction with Harman Kardon and AKG. Harman Kardon were promoting their new wireless AKG headphones -- high end in-studio caliber headphones for use by consumers in home. There were about 50 of us gathered in a very small room -- with Tommy & Jack sitting on a tiny stage in front of us (it was literally as if we were in someone's living room). All of us wearing our wireless headphones, listening to Tommy & Jack perform some of their greatest hits & cover tunes without use of any amps. They were having as much fun with this as we were! Kind of a weird set-up actually. By the way, the audio fidelity was superior.

Anyone have the JayBird Bluetooth wireless headphones? They look pretty cool but want to do my homework before coughing up the $$. Looks like they have good reviews.

Great post! Styx and Night Ranger were awesome back in the 80's. Never figured out why Night Ranger imploded after Sister Christian came out -- it was THE ANTHEM of the mid 80's

Thanks for reporting this. I wanted to go but was already on my way to NAMM.

Headphone concerts were one of the scenarios Peter Drescher explored in “The Annoying Future of Cell Phone Headsets.” I wonder: Did wearing phones reduce the concert experience by isolating you, or enhance it by providing better sound? And, assuming the venue didn’t provide a subwoofer or vibrating floor, did you miss the bass?
