Free Music Software.org
Here's an intriguing new site: FreeMusicSoftware.org compiles links to free samples, VST plug-ins, and, yes, music software. Apparently the work of a blogger named Crispin, it has a personal feel you don't get at more extensive sites like Don't Crack, with mini-reviews of the programs and even some tutorials.
The list of free samples is one of the most extensive I've seen. I didn't check every link to ensure the samples there weren't just royalty-free but also legal to use in commercial music production (an important distinction that's often in the fine print for bargain loop libraries). But Crispin seems to be strict about avoiding even shareware and donationware elsewhere on the site in order to present truly free options.
"No Good" by Plan B, one of Crispin's Top 5 Artistic Music Vids You May Not Have Seen collection, also on the site.
I've already bookmarked a number of links at Free Music Software.org to follow later. Check it out yourself and let us know what some of your favorite free music programs are.
