Properly configure your Creative Xmod for your Mac

Creative's Xmod audio enhancer delivers virtual 5.1 surround sound to your headphones or speaker pair. It's a great little device. Unfortunately, its default settings on the Mac do not let you experience all the great 5.1 sounds you should be hearing.
Here's how to fix that.
- Connect the Xmod to your computer and your speakers or headphones to the Xmod.
- Open /Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup. This application lets you tweak the system settings for your input and output devices.
- Select Creative Xmod from the Default Output pop-up.
- Select Creative Xmod from the Properties For pop-up list.
- Click Configure Speakers. This is a rectangular button to the right of the Clock Source. A settings window opens.
- Click MultiChannel. You'll find this button at the top-left.
- Choose 5.1 Surround from the pop-up at the top-right.
- Click Apply.
- (Optional) To test any of the virtual speakers, click the rectangle with the speaker name. A brief white noise will sound from that "speaker".
- Click Done.
- Your configuration is complete. You may quit from Audio MIDI Setup.
Thanks Jean-Michel.

Hi!
I got also the xmod, osx, an mbp and virtual dj :-)
first it worked really well - fine sound just everything was great! but now since perhaps a few days the sound over xmod is crappy - but only through virtualdj! with vlc the sound is still great. in virtualdj you can hear a strange sound when you change under performance the qualitylevel. very strange ...
i think it could come from the osx 10.5.6 update?! someone in an hackintosh forum sayed it could be related to some kernels ... but the talked about some 9.2 on amd machines.
... and yes i need a fix too :-) will do some firmwarupdate and then install osx again^

Hi Erica..
Please give me the light!!
How can i make xmod really work with virtual dj on a MacBook?
When i use xmod for virtual dj, the sound is damaged!!!
I need to use 1&2 chanel for master (line-out) and 3&4 for headphones, but it needs to play together, not only the master or headphones.
I hope for a solution!!!
I have desame problem than George. Can you help me?

I just have some Q's!
Does it will make me hear a Dolby 5.1 music/Dvd's and LogicPro properly, with high quality?
If Im playing WoW, does the sound will come 5.1?
And, the soround will be perfect?
The "right surround" (rear) and "left surround" virtual speakers sound *exactly* like the front right and left. Am I missing something?
Please answer soon, I got a job and I want to put my Logitech X-530 :P
Salutes from Mexico City, all help will be thanked :)
You should hear the two virtual speakers in two different "positions".
Also, regarding this article ... whats the point of correctly setting it up? The "right surround" (rear) and "left surround" virtual speakers sound *exactly* like the front right and left. Am I missing something?
help?
I thought this was a 24 bit sound device - i got it mainly so i could hear these nine inch nails 96khz / 24 bit stereo and surround remasters in full quality!! but in Audio / MIDI Setup, the only sample rate i can choose from is 44100hz, and the only bitrate setting is 16 bit!! Where's my 24 bit audio? The box says 24 bit. Do they mean just the crystallizer processing is 24 bit but the input and output is 16 bit? Argh!!
Hey Erica.
Tell us more about the Xmod! I've been messing with a JVC SU-DH1 recently; it decodes Dolby Digital and DTS into Dolby Headphone surround sound.
