Orrin Hatch wants to kill your computer

Here are some choices quotes from Ted Bridis' AP report on the Senator's logical, sensible plan.

The senator, who is a songwriter on the side, acknowledged that Congress would have to enact an exemption for copyright owners from liability for damaging computers. He endorsed technology that would warn a computer user twice about illegal online behavior, "then destroy their computer."

"If we can find some way to do this without destroying their computer, we'd be interested in hearing about that," Hatch said. "If that's the only way, then I'm all for destroying their machines. If you have a few thousand of those, I think people would realize" the seriousness of their actions, he said.

What other penalties can you think of for "illegal" downloading? Maybe having to work at a music label?

Kazaa
What a joke, last time i looked, kazaa had 4 million users online, not to mention all the other programs like Audio Galaxy, Bearshare, etc. Does this man actually think that destroying 4 million American computers is going to go over well with the public?

These kinds of things will eventually lead to the overthrow of the United States government. Simply put.

Senator Hatch Introduces Bill to Burn People’s Eyes Out
Let's look inside Senator Hatch's computers at home and at the US Senate. If there's any non-license-paid programs in them, he is unfit to be head of the Committee of the Judiciary -- he should be the first one to prove his purity, and the first one to go if he violated copyright laws.

Orrin Hatch is a TERRORIST
I have long respected Orrin Hatch as a voice of reason, but no more. Spyware is already a huge problem on the internet and there should be a federal law to punish anyone who places it on a citizens personal computer. Now Hatch not only wants to ligitimize spyware but make it legal for them to ACTUALLY DESTROY A COMPUTER WHICH IT DEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM. If he suceeds, he will kill the internet and Microsoft whose operating systems would allow it. Smart people will use unix and the world will lease microsoft in the dust of bad american privacy laws.
