When I thought about compiling a list of The Influencers, Tim O'Reilly was the first person who came to mind. If anything, his inclusion might raise some eyebrows only because he's such a technology icon, it might seem unimaginable that anyone in Silicon Valley hasn't heard of him. Well, not everyone knows him - but they should.

Based in Sebastopol, his O'Reilly Media is one of the largest and most respected publishers of technology books. And for me, his conferences are can't-miss events that establish an agenda for what the valley's innovators are - or should be - thinking about.
