A followup to my previous entry on handling paginated data within AJAX loaded content.
A simple example of dealing with paginated content with Ajax loaded divs.
There are about 250K developers working with Flex and AIR. If you add an army of ActionScript developers, this number will grow substantially. Where do you go if you have a technical issue while developing RIA? As of today, there...
Kevin Shuttle already beat me to the proverbial punch with his review, but I'd to share some of my thoughts on a recent Boston based conference called RIA Unleashed. This developer focused event was recently held at Bentley College, Waltham,...
There are a lot of new features in the ColdFusion 9 beta on that was recently released on Adobe Labs. One of the things that caught my attention is the ability to read and generate MS Office documents on the fly, including PowerPoint Presentation files. Read on to see a brief example showing how to generate PPT files using the ColdFusion 9 beta.
In case you missed it earlier this week, Adobe has recently released ColdFusion 9 beta on Adobe Labs and ColdFusion Builder on Adobe Labs. I was lucky enough to catch a presentation of the new features at last night's DC Flex User Group by Adam Lehman (CF Product Manager), and I have to say, it certainly looks intriguing and very promising.
Simple example of using jQuery clone to allow for multiple file uploads and metadata.
A quick video demonstrating how Firebug can be used to debug an Ajax problem.
Scotch on the Rocks, established in 2005, is a conference concentrating on all things ColdFusion, Flex & AIR: Incorporating keynotes, technical sessions and tutorials, as well as the most innovative and successful experts and companies, Scotch on the Rocks is a...
Third and final entry on a jQuery-based sports tournament picker
There are some great RIA conferences but if you don't live close to the events it can be tough to take advantage of them. Luckily there are a ton of User Groups (i.e. Adobe User Groups) to bring it closer...
A look at how you can use jQuery and ColdFusion to detect when an session has ended while using an AJAX call.
Can we detect when a request is made to our server via an Ajax-based call as opposed to a 'normal' request? In this entry I talk about how you can accomplish such a task with jQuery and ColdFusion.
Since I discovered Twitterfall.com, I've become addicted to the site's constant stream of Twitter updates. The site works on a basic premise. Enter few search terms, and a 'waterfall' of matching tweets will slowly scroll down the screen. It is...
In this article Raymond Camden gives a basic introduction to jQuery UI Tabs. Examples show simple, ajax loaded, and even bookmarked tabs. Also included is a simple ColdFusion-based example.

The first bits of ColdFusion information appeared on Adobe Labs this morning. This is certainly exciting for ColdFusion developers as Adobe has finally given information not only on the next version of ColdFusion, but also announced the much anticipated official ColdFusion IDE.

The past few months have brought about a lot of debate in the ColdFusion community, and I have been listening. Why? Well, I knew that I was going to need to deploy a CFML server for a project. The recent announcements meant that I needed to reconsider all of the CFML options: Adobe ColdFusion, Railo, Open BlueDragon, and Smith.

As I write, the CFUnited 2008 conference is underway in Washington, DC. This morning's keynote from Adobe brought out some really great details about ColdFusion 9 and how the new ColdFusion / Flex / AIR integration will play out. I am not present at CFUnited this year, but I have compiled some of the details. If you are a Flex / AIR developer who hasn't considered ColdFusion - you might want to reconsider upon the release of ColdFusion 9.

Let me start off by saying that I am - in no way - a usability expert. I hardly even consider myself an Ajax expert. But I've built enough Ajax applications now where I'm beginning to think more and more about the usability aspects of the site. I recently had an opportunity to make improvements to one of my sites based on user feedback, and I thought I'd share what I did and get people's opinions about how I could have done it better.

In my last post, I discussed how ColdFusion aids RIA developers, both Flash/Flex as well as AJAX developers. I focused on serving data up to RIA consumers. In this entry, I'm going to discuss other Ajax features, most of which help out on the front end of your web site, an area ColdFusion has traditionally stayed away from (which makes sense as a back-end development platform).
