A week ago last Friday, Apple unleashed Snow Leopard (aka OS X 10.6) on the world. So far, there haven't been many rumblings either way, although the trade press has been generally kind. We thought it might be a good idea to check in with Chris Seibold, author of the upcoming Mac OS X Snow Leopard Pocket Guide, to get his take on how things have been going.

Snow Leopard, the latest iteration of Mac OS X, arrived on August 28th. Whenever a new operating system arrives we have to research our applications before upgrading. (Don't forget that Windows 7 is coming at the end of October so our Windows colleagues will be facing this very soon as well.) Luckily, it seems, that Lightroom 2.4 and the Creative Suite 4 applications will run under Snow Leopard. John Nack has posted an FAQ regarding the Creative Suite 4 applications on his blog. My 1st generation MacBook didn't like the 10.5.6 update. And, now it doesn't like the 10.5.7 update. Fortunately, the Combo Update file for each release saved the day in each case.

I've been operating almost exclusively on a Mac since OS X came out. I grew up in Unix, and never liked the lack of usability in Windows, so it was a good fit. However, I don't have any particular interest in making Apple look better than it really is, particularly when it comes to security.
