In this episode I get an overview of the Yahoo User Interface Library (YUI ) from Nate Koechley. We cover topics including how Nate got started there, the various elements in YUI, why Yahoo builds and maintains this library. We also touched on some of the more unique elements of Yahoo's offering for JavaScript developers including their integration with Flash, the Yahoo Pattern Library and how Yahoo plans to get more open source with their code.
There were more demos and announcements at JavaOne this year about JavaFX. Josh Marinacci and I were both part of the RIA Discussion that was hosted by RedMonk during CommunityOne. In this podcast Josh and I talk about what's coming in the July SDK release, JavaSE 6, the new applets and where JavaFX fits into the big picture of RIA.
I caught up with Andy Edmonds recently to talk about Scrutinizer which is an AIR app that simulates a users vision or attention while their view a web page. We cover a wide range of topics in the podcast including how vision works, eye tracking equipment, how AIR was used for Scrutinizer and even touched on origins of usability and eye gaze simulation. Andy's a cognitive psycologist and has done huge amounts of research in web usability, I always enjoy chatting with and learning from him.
