Post-Photokina Stress Disorder
After a rather stressful trip back from Photokina, I finally arrived home in SW England at 3:30am, Monday morning...
It'll take awhile for all the information from six full days at Photokina to settle into place, but so far the highlights of the show for me are:
The micro four-thirds announcements (plus Samsung's competing system) for the possibilities of a truly pocketable digital camera with a decently-sized sensor and interchangeable lenses. I'd love to see one of those rangefinder-styled cameras with a wide fisheye for panoramic work.
Adobe CS4 - although this will be the first version of Photoshop where I'm considering skipping a version, as I use PS so little these days. Also, we appear to be back in 'let's mess with the European's wallets' time again, and don't get me started on CS3 Extended not counting for anything over CS3 normal if you want to upgrade to CS4 Extended...
The Canon 5DmkII, not that i had time to get near a copy. :-(
Vast numbers of Chinese clone manufacturers of hardware. Wandering around hall 6 and others, they really were endless! Although I admit to taking advantage of a 20 Euro wireless shutter remote for my 5D, and then a second one for 15 Euro when everyone was packing up on Sunday.
Sony's model city. This was a scale model of the city block in their current bubbles ad, complete with bubble-blowing machines. After talking to a bunch of different people I managed to get permission to drive my Panobot (a LEGO-powered robot with a Canon 5D and 15mm fisheye strapped on top) into the model to shoot some panoramas from a Godzilla's-eye-view.
Any other favourite moments from Photokina?
Ian
