Aperture in the Olympic Media Center
This coming Monday I board a plane to Beijing to help Kodak and Apple in the Olympic Media Center. In addition to the excitement that comes with my first visit to China, not to mention my first media pass for the Olympics, I'm thrilled that the official media center will have Macs with Aperture installed. One of my jobs is to help make this a productive experience for the photographers working the event.
I'll be working with Apple staff such as Joe Schorr, and other Aperture notables including David Schloss of Aperture Users Network. During my stay, I'll be on the lookout for the "story behind the story," and I hope to come home with photos and interviews of the people who helped bring the Olympics to the world. I'll publish much of that content on our own Inside Aperture.
If you want a realtime peek behind the scenes however, be sure to keep an eye on my The Digital Story blog. I'll be posting there while in Beijing. I've already begun publishing. You can read a post about some background infromation for the trip in Pulling the Pieces Together, and then my inventory all of the equipment in my magic bag of tricks in What's in the Bag for Beijing.
I'll also post on Twitter as Derrick_Story. Stay tuned!

Good luck Derrick and congratulations on your fabulous trip and press passes.

Ps. Need any assistants that know Aperture? ;)
What a great opportunity! I imagine the photographers covering the event will have ironclad workflows already, but it will be interesting to hear how they stretch and adapt. Your list of iPhone travel software on The Digital Story was intriguing too.
Hi There
Just got back from 3 months in China photographing, including Beijing. You are going to have a great time, although it is very crowded in Beijing now with lots more army and police. I know the area very well if you have any questions, feel free to ask. And of course if you want to have me come over and help too that would be great - ha ha.. :)
cool job. congrats and good luck!
