Three Days of Peace Love and Photography

June is chock full of all sorts of exciting events. From the 8th until the 12 I will be out in Apple-ville for the 2008 World Wide Developer’s Conference (WWDC). It was a blast last year and I am sure that with the new edit plugins for Aperture, there will be lots of excitement this year as well.

If you are in the San Fran area for the week of WWDC be sure to drop me a line. In addition to WWDC, I will be making an effort to make it down to Charlottesville Virginia for this years annual Festival of the Photograph. The Festival of the Photograph, billed as “Three Days of Peace, Love and Photography” is like a mini Visa Pour L’Image. Only, it’s not so mini anymore. Some of the greatest photographers of our time will be there to speak and show their most recent works. It’s a great opportunity to do some networking, see some photography and just plain get inspired.

I’m hoping I will be able to make it down there on Friday and stay for all the Saturday talks, but for those of you with more time on your hands, the festival runs from Thursday until Saturday. Ticket prices are very reasonable and well worth every penny. Go!

Speaking of inspiration, I have been doing some self-inspiring photographic acts. This is something I like to do when I get myself into a creative rut. And this can happen frequently.

So, I dug out my old Holga and found about 10 rolls of film and had some fun burning through them in the Mt. Vernon Square area of Baltimore. I got the negatives back from the “lab” the other day, and while it was the first time I had shot film in about 5 years, my exposures were all pretty decent (especially considering I shot them on a Holga!). So, I was pretty impressed with myself.

I cut them up and filed them away (making sure to add them to my Bento DB) and hopefully someday soon I will pick up a decent flatbed scanner and get them digitized and into my Aperture library. I’m going to keep on shooting film for now, and digital of course, but I am having a great time with my little $30 Holga and it’s giant sized negatives. Fun stuff.

It is pretty weird shooting film again. I want that immediate satisfaction and feedback I get with digital so bad. I’m also used to burning through pixels without any cause for alarm, and with my Holga I get 12 shots per roll. So, $5.00 per roll, plus about $8.00 for processing, and you can see how you start to think about the price per click. But, it’s very fun, and anyone can afford a Holga!

So, if you are going to be at WWDC, or at the Festival of the Photograph, be sure to leave me a comment and maybe we can all meet up for a frosty beverage at some point! Until then, keep shooting and have a great weekend.
