One Feature I Miss From 1.5, and WWDC08
One feature that seams to be missing in Aperture 2.0 is the ability to automatically create album picks when creating a new album from a selection. Ok, let me explain.
Lets say you have a Project full of images, many of which are stacked together. You go through and select a handful of these images and now you want to create a new Album from your selection.
In Aperture 1.5, this seemed to work perfectly. When you created a new Album from your selection (Command-L) Aperture would automatically make the selected image the Album Pick in the new Album. This behavior doesn’t seem to exist in Aperture 2.0, unless I am missing some secret shortcut.
This operation was really important in my workflow when I wanted to do things like create a set of images with a specific crop for printing. For example, lets say that I had a set of images all shot in the standard 35mm format, which I wanted to print as 5x7. To make this task really simple, I would just select all the images, create duplicate versions and then, with the new versions automatically selected, I would hit command-L to create a new album with the selected versions as my album picks. This would make it really easy to apply my 5x7 format crop to the new versions and export them for print.
So far I have yet to come up with a substitute for this workflow. So, Apple, if you are listening, please bring back the feature that automatically sets my album pick when creating a new album from a selection, or at least add an option key to make it all work again!
WWDC
On another note, Apple announced yesterday that WWDC08 would be taking place in San Francisco between June 9th and 13th. I imagine the focus of this year’s developer’s conference will be the new iPhone SDK, but I am sure it will be a great experience for ANYONE interested in developing software on the Mac.
Last year I had the pleasure of attending my first WWDC (and my first Steve Jobs Keynote) and it was a blast. I’m really excited about attending this year’s conference and I hope to see plugin developers, and people interested in the new Applescript hooks for Aperture during the show. And who knows, if Apple releases the new SDK for Aperture, image edit plugins may be stealing some of the iPhone thunder!

I also very much deplore the loss of this feature. I first learned about it from Steve Weller at bagelturf.com.
I agree this is a great feature that is now missing (among some others). I also used this in my workflow all of the time. A real simple work around that I am using until this is fixed (I doen't seem like it was eliminated on purpose) that I am using is just create the album from your selected images and then make the adjustments on a duplicate version from the current stack picks, this seems to make the new version created in the album the album pick.
In other words - for your example - create a 5x7 album with all of the current project stack picks, or the criteria that you use, then duplicate stack pick, apply adjustment, done. No reason to even open the stack, as soon as you duplicate the stack pick in the album it automagically becomes the album pick.
Hope this soothes the pain.
If you want to hear about some real pain in 2 just let me know.

I'd LOVE to go see a Stevenote! Unfortunately, it's almost always during school (the exception being 2006).
