Aperture 2.0: The free video tutorials

With the introduction of Aperture 2.0, Apple made sure that a lot of really useful and up-to-date information about this new release are immediately available from the official Aperture 2.0 site.

I must admit, one of the things that really pleasantly surprised, and impressed me, was not just the new software itself but the re-designed site that launched Aperture 2.0.

In keeping with all of Apple's other previous product launches and major product updates, the official Apple website can be considered the first authoritative online resource filled with really useful information about the new release or the new product update.

The new Aperture 2.0 site is no exception.

The new Aperture 2.0 site is clean, sleek, and easy to navigate. The presentation of information is very organized and easy to understand. Photographers who are getting to know Aperture for the first time may have an easier and faster time learning about it now than those who did before with previous versions.

Without a doubt, the new official Apple Aperture 2.0 website is a truly excellent primary resource.

My favorite section in the newly revamped site is the Tutorials. In this section, Apple presents more than 50 excellent compact video tutorials, that is somewhat similar to a lot of the fantastic iPhone tutorial videos. There are also about 10 text tutorials in the same page.

Each of the video tutorial (lasting a little over a minute to less than 4 minutes), depending on the topic being covered, is neatly organized into categories such as: Introduction, Organize (Importing, Compare and Select, Searching and Sorting, Organizing), Adjust (Image Editing, Metadata), Publish (Output, Presets), and, Integration.

When you are done viewing a particular video tutorial, a yellow check mark automatically appears beside it, marking all the videos you've already watched. This is a neat way to be reminded which you've already seen, and which you still need to watch. It will probably take the whole afternoon, or the entire day, or even more, to watch all of the video tutorials.

In a somewhat very typically organized Apple fashion, some of the videos even have links to related galleries that provide additional information. And, if you want to independently watch the videos over and over again, you can right-click on each of the completed video tutorials, and download them to your hard drive by clicking on "Save As QuickTime Movie." (You need QuickTime Pro to be able to freely download the video tutorials.)

To photographers getting to know Aperture for the first time, and to photographers who have been using previous versions of Aperture, the tutorial videos in the new Aperture 2.0 site is a great way to really start learning about Aperture 2.0.

Is there a reason you wouldn't put a link directly to Apple's site for this article?

Direct link to the free video tutorials are now a click away from within the blog entry. Thank you.

Are these tutorials included in the boxed 2.0 software? I'm in Tibet with painfully slow internet and, unfortunately, this snazzy new web site is of no use to me.

Unless it is in the full retail version, is not on the retail upgrade version.
