"Aperture 2 New Features" Title Available on Lynda.com

By 9:30 am on Tuesday, we were in the studio working on the Aperture 2 New Features title at Lynda.com. Fifty-five hours later, 22 movies were posted online ready for viewing. Six of the movies are free and can be viewed by anyone right now.

The primary areas I focused on in this New Features title include:

  • Interface changes including the tabbed inspector and new double-click behavior
  • Performance improvements featuring Quick Preview that accelerates all photo management functions
  • New image decoding with the introduction of RAW 2.0 processing and Baseline DNG
  • Additional image editing tools including Recovery, Vibrancy, Color Dropper, and the Retouch brush
  • Customizable keyboard shortcuts enabling you to choose your own keystrokes for core operations
  • .Mac Web Gallery creation for simple, but powerful Web display directly from Aperture

So, if you haven't soaked up enough Aperture 2.0 yet, go over to Lynda and watch the freebies.

Derrick, I was thinking today how nice it would be to go to Lynda.com and watch an update of your 1.5 tutorials that you did with Scott. I was guessing in a month or so there would be an update from you about 2.0. WOW! Thank you. :)

It dawned on me while recording these tutorials that I probably could not have worked this quickly with previous versions of Aperture. In part, we were able to turn this project around so quickly because the Lynda.com team was committed to making it happen. Keep in mind they didn't even know about V2 until after 9 am on Tuesday. I wasn't authorized to discuss it with them.

But Aperture 2 itself had much to do with this. It truly is easier to use. And I think new users coming to this application will find success faster than many of us pioneers did with version one.

Derrick: enjoyed your "New Features" movies. In LR, if you set the Caps Lock, you automatically move to the next image after you rate an image. Is there anyway in Aperture to set this up?

Derrick,

Tell Schorr that they should add the capability to export book design on pdf and jpg. That would awesome for wedding photographers.

Thanks for the smart videos ;)

I'm actually trying aperture 2 and welcome the iphoto browser. But is there a way to avoid picture duplication when importing pictures with the iphoto browser ? can't find this. I'd just like my original files to stay in the iphoto library...

If you hold down Command+Option while dragging from the iPhoto Browser to Aperture, you'll be referencing the imported images....no duplication. So you get to use your iPhoto images in Aperture without making extra copies of them.
