They fixed the watermark!
There was one "feature" in version 1.5.1 that really annoyed me. It was in the export module, it you specified a watermark file Aperture would apply the watermark before it resized the image. So if you were carefull to create a watermark exactly the size you wanted it, it would never actually be that size on the exported image unless you exported your image at full size.
Well, v1.5.2 just got released tonight and they added a "Scale Watermark" checkbox. If you leave that box unchecked your watermark will always be the size you intended it to be, regardless of the exported image size.

Automator came to the rescue with this bug, as I had to start applying them via Photoshop. That was slow though (at least until the CS3 beta!), so this is great news!

Indeed. This is one improvement that I'm happy about as well. I wasn't happy with watermarks coming out different sizes depending on if I'd cropped into the image at all or not. Even rotating an image would scale it enough to make the watermark change size ever so slightly in Aperture 1.5.1. Thanks for the pointing this out!

I know this is a silly question, but how do you create a watermark for Aperture. Do you Photoshop or some other kind of application? My problem specifically is that the background always shows. How do you make it transparent?

Yes, I use Photoshop to create the watermark graphics.
The watermark can be a JPG or a PSD file. If you create a PSD you can have a transparent background.
I know this may be a silly question for a guy who has a fairly decent grasp on computer technology, but how do you create a watermark for use on pictures exported out of Aperture? In Photoshop this process occurs quite naturally with the effect I want. Even in Adobe's Lightroom they have made it a simple affair.
I want the background of the text to be transparent and the words to stand out on top of the image. Any thoughts or suggestions.
Also, on an unrelated topic, I have found the date created field does not transfer correctly when exporting pictures out of Aperture and then opening those same pictures up with Photoshop CS2. Are you having the same problem?

In Photoshop go to the File menu, select "New" and set the image size to what you want and make sure you select "Transparent" in the "Background Contents:" field.
When you are done creating the watermark image make sure you save it as Photoshop PSD file.
That's all there is to it.
