Lobster Fishing
(Posting for Winston Hendrickson)
I left in the dead of night today (4am) to take advantage of an opportunity to view Tasmania through the eyes of a local lobster fisherman, Grant Whelan. Grant has been fishing since he was nine now captains his own boat made entirely from the local Huon Pine (and will last over 100 years as a result) and heads out of port every day at 5am. Shooting was a challenge once the boat got down to business and I had to dodge around the tight deck while the two man crew harvested and re-planted their forty one wooden traps (lobsters like wood better than metal). The day was successful, netting thirty three lobsters in all, and provided me with fresh lobster for breakfast.
