Hobart Sunrise
An intrepid crew of us headed to the top of Mt Wellington in the wee hours in the morning only to see freezing rain and total darkness. Aussie photographers Peter Eastway and Robert Edwards kept the mood cheery with unending Aussie humor and sarcasm as we sat in the van watching driving rain, despite the feeling that we were likely to get no photos that morning. UK photographer Jackie King was laughing as she caught the action in the van on video. We were thinking that Jackie's video was all that there was to be caught that morning - aside from the sleep we were missing.
But on the way back down the hill, the clouds parted for a moment, and we pulled over and got this view of the breaking rain and sunrise over Hobart for a wonderful 10 minutes. We all were perched precariously on the road railing trying to photograph over the gum trees, keep our balance, and keep the cameras steady in the low light with whatever leg of a tripod we could balance up there with us.
This is a panorama I made of the scene from 5 images, viewed through Flash.
